Andreas Streicher was the son of a master bricklayer who died young. From 1771 he grew up in Stuttgart as an orphan. His musical talent brought him into contact with studens of the Karlsschule. Friedrich Schiller studied there as well and they became friends. In 1782 they secretly attented the premiere of Schiller's "Die Räuber" in Mannheim. Later that year they fled from Stuttgart to Mannheim and he would write a book about this flight. He had wanted to travel to Hamburg to study with Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, but after helping Schiller financially he was forced to stay in Mannheim. There he worked as piano teacher and he gave concerts. In 1786 he moved on to Munich where he taught the piano but also made himself a name as a composer. In 1793 he married Nannette Stein (1769-1833), the daughter of the piano manufacturer Johann Andreas Stein from Augsburg. In 1794 he went to Vienna with Nannette and there she started the piano factory "Frère et Soeur Stein" with her brother Matthäus Andreas Stein. After brother and sister split up in 1802, Nannette ran the company and Streicher joined it as a successful piano maker. During the last years of Ludwig van Beethoven's life he and Nannette were close to him and looked after him. Streicher died in 1833 shortly after his wife. They were buried at the St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna. In 1891 their remains were transferred to the Zentralfriedhof in that city. Anna Toscani was Amalia and Friedrich Meyer was Hermann. Friedrich Schiller wasn't allowed to leave Württemberg but he secretly attended the premiere together with his freund Andreas Streicher. | 22/9/1782 | Friedrich Schiller flees from Stuttgart. After his first play "Die Räuber", Duke Karl Eugen of Württenberg had forbidden him to write new plays.
