Edition 86, 03-06-2009
1. Redesigned XS4ALL newsletter
2. Wiki Loves Art/NL
3. Holiday tip: Secure Webmail
As a newsletter subscriber, you will soon be among the first to see our new house style! That is because the next edition will be published in an HTML-formatted version. The content is also being revamped: the familiar news items about XS4ALL, your account and helpdesk tips will be supplemented with articles on internet developments, interesting websites and tips for Mac users.
As an existing newsletter reader, you do not have to do anything in order to receive the next edition in the formatted version. If you would prefer to receive the plain text version, you can select that right away in our online Service Centre (https://service.xs4all.nl) under 'personal details'. You can also adjust the settings of your e-mail program to specify how it handles HTML e-mails, as the new newsletter can be displayed both in HTML format and in plain text.
Calling all photographers! XS4ALL is taking part in Wiki Loves Art, a project in which 30 Dutch museums are opening their doors to let amateur photographers record their collections and provide Wikipedia with photographs.
Anyone with a camera can take part. The idea is that photographs will be posted online and added to Wikipedia under a Creative Commons licence. The project is a wonderful demonstration of the strength of the internet: it brings together a large group of people who can derive a great deal of pleasure from contributing to Wikipedia, even without having any direct personal interest.
On 21 June, a midsummer party will be held at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. NB: you must register in order to take part in this event.
